Young people and their parents are struggling more than ever with the stressors of life, school, and work. Resources are scarce and often there is little focus dedicated to helping parents understand their child's process and how they can appropriately support them.
Parents are often in need of guidance and support to build and maintain their relationships with their children. The goal of parent and family coaching is to help parents attune to their child's needs, set and maintain healthy boundaries, and learn how to respond to their child's needs in a loving yet structured way. In addition to working on the parent/child relationship, coaching may also focus on the relationship between parents.
Having worked in wilderness therapy, residential, and inpatient programs, Theresa is accustomed to working with families in crises and understands the support parents need to navigate their child’s treatment and transition home. Theresa also understands the challenges that arise in parenting children with neurodiversity, having worked with this population in her previous roles, as well as being the parent of a "neurospicy" kid.
Theresa guides parents through a curriculum that is attachment-based and trauma-responsive, pulling from her years of training as a parent educator and as a clinician and from her experiences of working with parents and children in crisis, and as a daughter and mother.
Parent coaching consists of weekly scheduled phone or video coaching sessions that focus on identifying parenting strengths and growth areas, skill-building, and providing support. Issues adjacent to parenting, such as marital difficulties, co-parenting issues, and family systems are also addressed.
For families whose children are in treatment, support also includes communication with treatment team members, assistance with treatment assignments (such as letter writing and next-step planning), and coordinating care for home services.
Coaching is offered to clients across the country and internationally.
Private Pay only ~ $230 per 50-55 minute session and weekly support services.
