Young people and their parents are struggling more than ever with the stressors of life, school, and work. Resources are scarce, and little focus is often on helping parents understand their children's processes and how they can appropriately support them.
Parents often need guidance and support to build and maintain their relationships with their children. Parent and family consultation aims to help parents attune to their child's needs, set and maintain healthy boundaries, and learn how to respond to their child's needs in a loving yet structured way. In addition to working on the parent/child relationship, consultation and facilitation may also focus on the relationship between parents.
My goals are to teach parenting concepts that are attachment-based, connecting, and authoritative; teach you the skills you need to operational theory; and help you problem-solve real-life scenarios using the skills you have learned. I am not here to tell you what your morals and values should be, what specific rules you should have, etc.- those are for you to decide, though I can help you problem-solve for these if needed. This is a collaboration!
Having worked in wilderness therapy, residential, and inpatient programs, Theresa is accustomed to working with families in crises. She understands the support parents need to navigate their child's treatment and transition home. She also understands the challenges that arise in parenting children with neurodiversity, having worked with this population in her previous roles and being the parent of a "neurospicy" kid.
Parent consultation consists of weekly phone or video sessions to identify strengths and growth areas, build skills, and provide support. Issues adjacent to parenting, such as marital difficulties, co-parenting issues, and family systems, are also addressed.
For families whose children are in treatment, support includes communication with treatment team members, assistance with treatment assignments (such as letter writing and next-step planning), and care coordination for home services.
Consultation is offered to clients across the country and internationally.
Private Pay only ~ $230 per 50-55 minute session and weekly support services.
Parental education is not insurance-reimbursable.
